New Zealand Recovery Visa-Travel profile

Successful candidates will receive the visa at no cost, and the government promises to review applications in seven days. Woods said that the visa may be used for a maximum of six months.

Employers must fill out a rehabilitation Visa Employer Supplementary Form (INZ 1377) to attest that the position aids in the continuing rehabilitation of the North Island from extreme weather occurrences. The completed form must be submitted with the application by the immigrant.

 

Industries that provide indirect support (such as firms in impacted areas experiencing a rise in service demand) or fill positions left vacant by employees quitting to work on the recovery are not eligible for this visa.

Through other visas, such the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), these firms will have access to labour. The AEWV is being modified to enable quicker processing for roles that have been recognized as supporting the reconstruction and recovery. The labour market test will not apply to these roles.

 The Recovery Visa acknowledges that some direct support industries will be headquartered in the South Island and is not restricted to positions in the North Island alone. Accreditation is not mandatory for employers.

Putting up an application for a recovery visa

The employer renews the employment contract of the migrant worker.

If submitting an online application, they have to:
opt for the 'Specific Purpose or Event' work visa category when submitting their application.

choose 'Recovery Visa' as the kind of special occasion or purpose for which they are visiting New Zealand.

Choose "more than six months but less than twelve months" for the duration of your visit to New Zealand. This can lead to a request for them to submit their application together with a certificate of chest x-ray.

Upload a letter confirming the exemption from the requirement for a chest x-ray certificate if requested, as long as the applicant is requesting a three-month extension of their recovery visa. They are not needed to present a certificate of chest x-ray.

Provide proof of their employment (such as an extended job offer) in the "Upload Documents" box under "Evidence required for your Special Purpose or Event work visa." They need to submit an Employer Supplementary Form (INZ 1377) attesting to this, along with proof that their job is connected to the severe weather incidents that occurred earlier in the year.

According to the website, this visa is not eligible for use by sectors that provide indirect support (such as firms in the impacted areas that are experiencing a spike in demand for services) or to fill positions left by employees who are departing to work on the recovery.

 

The program is a good step forward that will hasten the nation's recovery from these natural calamities.
